 Environmental Impact Assessment

An environmental impact assessment (EIA) is an assessment of the possible positive or negative impact that a proposed project may have on the environment, together consisting of the environmental, social and economic aspects. The purpose of the assessment is to ensure that decision makers consider the ensuing environmental impacts when deciding whether to proceed with a project. Mazingira Limited has been instrumental in carrying out EIAs in a number of sectors including telecommunication, construction, water, housing, industrial, oil and energy just to mention a few.

  Environmental Audits

Environmental audit is a general term that can reflect various types or evaluations intended to identify environmental compliance and management system implementation gaps, along with related corrective actions. In this way they perform an analogous (similar) function to financial audits. These audits are intended to review the site's/company's legal compliance status in an operational context. The audits generally begin with determining the applicable compliance requirements against which the operations will be assessed. This tends to include national laws and regulations, permits and local authority by-laws. The company has over the years carried out EAs in key sectors including hospitality, telecommunication, construction, water, housing, industrial, oil and energy just to mention a few.

  Waste Management

Waste management is the collection, transport, processing or disposal, managing and monitoring of waste materials. The term usually relates to materials produced by human activity, and the process is generally undertaken to reduce their effect on health, the environment or aesthetics. Waste management is a distinct practice from resource recovery which focuses on delaying the rate of consumption of natural resources. All wastes materials, whether they are solid, liquid, gaseous or radioactive fall within the remit of waste management and the company has done this to a number of clients.

  Health and Safety Audits

A health and safety audit ensures compliance with all current legislation related to health and safety at work. It is a critical, in-depth examination of an organisation’s health and safety management systems. Health and safety audits normally cover the whole system or particular aspects, such as risk assessment procedures, issue and control of personal protective equipment etc. Health and safety audits are usually carried out by Mazingira Limited on an annual basis and provide client organizations with a clear picture of their performance in terms of health and safety management. As a result, remedial actions are normally recommended before incidents occur.

 Risk Assessment

Risk assessment is a step in a risk management procedure. Risk assessment is the determination of quantitative or qualitative value of risk related to a concrete situation and a recognized threat (also called hazard). Mazingira Limited carries out this together with Health and Safety Audits.

 Energy Audits

An energy audit is an inspection, survey and analysis of energy flows for energy conservation in a building, process or system to reduce the amount of energy input into the system without negatively affecting the output(s). When the object of study is an occupied building then reducing energy consumption while maintaining or improving human comfort, health and safety are of primary concern. Beyond simply identifying the sources of energy use, an energy audit seeks to prioritize the energy uses according to the greatest to least cost effective opportunities for energy savings. Mazingira Limited has Certified Energy Managers (CEM) who have over the years successfully carried out energy audits to various clients of the company.
